Wow where have the last 6 months gone? Is it just me or did time just go by like a flash! I am so glad I took so many photos and videos and stored them in Family Album as I LOVE looking back at these. I’m also super glad I’ve been journalling our daughters journey in the “Day One” app – which has helped me significantly to track my daughters milestones, developments and special memories. I’ve created handy templates in this app to help me track her monthly Montessori developments and this helped me so much to write down the observations (observations are a HUGE part of the Montessori method).

Now that we’re at 6 months, we’ve started our baby led weaning journey which is very exciting but can also be somewhat overwhelming and challenging as now you’ve got to come up with some recipes! Aaarrghhh!!!

Given I’m running a few businesses including my blog here, my English Staffy Breeding kennel and my American Bully breeding kennel, as well as our medical clinic, I really don’t have a lot of time to cook fresh food daily. So to save time, I’ve made it easy on myself:

  1. I order healthy fresh frozen meals from Nourishing Bubs (single fruit and vege frozen cubes) and LePuree (frozen meals combined e.g. banana chia, coconut yum!)
  2. Once a week I make bulk meal preps for our family and I freeze heaps of foods.
  3. I write down some meal ideas on a board in the kitchen so when I feel brain dead I just look at this and it makes it easy!

Baby Led Weaning 6 Month Meal Ideas

Here are some of my fave recipes that freeze easy!

Sweet Potato Pancakes

Cook up some peeled sweet potato, let it cool down, mash it, squeeze the water out of it, mix with farm fresh eggs and bake in fry pan in coconut oil (make heaps and freeze them in portions).

Version 2: add in scoop of oats when you cook the sweet potato, for a different texture and nutritional intake.

3 Ingredient Banana Oat Pancakes (Banana, Oats, Eggs)

This recipe was probably THE BEST… given that my husband ate half of the plate (not realizing this was meal prep for our daughter – I guess I should label things clearly next time and put a DO NOT TOUCH label on it).

Mash 2 – 3 ripe bananas with oat meal (simply blitz oats in ninja blender to make a meal out of it, or keep them coarser depending on your stage of BLW) then add farm fresh eggs and pour mixture into SMALL pancakes in fry pan. Make heaps and freeze ahead.

Adapted from this recipe.

Baby Broccoli Bites

Adapted from this recipe but I don’t use onion, and only a tiny bit of cheese and no seasoning. Just lots of veggies including grated broccoli and zucchini and carrot.

French Toast

Just as we make protein french toast for ourselves (which is a great pre workout meal) we just slice a little bit for bubs – keeping in mind to use very minimal seasoning.

Overnight Oats

Once again, I make overnight oats for my husband and myself and you can just make a tiny little cup for bubs. I’ve also made cooked oast with grated zucchini and that was a good hit (plus hidden veggies! I suppose I should do the same recipe for the husband).

Simply prep 4 glass jars, add your oats, blueberries, some seeds and nuts, choice of milk (we use oat, almond or coconut) and put it in the fridge overnight. Tadaaa… breakfast is ready when you wake!!

Baby Spinach Pancakes

Simply throw some spinach, ripe banana, egg and choice of flour into the blender, mix together and bake tiny small pancakes that tiny hands can easily hold. Remember the texture should be smooth and moist, so that it’s easy for baby to eat and mash (without teeth). Adapted from this more complex recipe (I like to keep things SUPER simply so I make my own mixes… if I can’t remember the ingredients, than the recipe is TOO complex so I just look at the recipe, and make it my own)

Below is a photo of some meal ideas for our daughter in case I have NO inspiration!

Home Made Baby Puree Recipe Ideas

Spinach Smoothie / Popsicle

Simply mix half a bag of spinach, choice of yoghurt, 2 ripe bananas into ninja blender, either freeze them into popsicles for hot days and teething babies, or enjoy it as a smoothie. YUM! great for mummas health too as spinach is rich in iron!

Berry Baby Smoothie

Simply blitz ripe banana, oats, choice of milk / yoghurt, frozen blueberries into ninja blender and that’s it. Then poor into freezer cubes and enjoy 1 serving right away. Yum!

Orange Mixture

I simply cook a heap of orange veggies including sweet potato, pumpkin, carrots, red and orange capsicum and some oats into a big pot. Then let it cool down, mash it and blend it. Freeze it and tadaaaa!!!

Green Mixture

When it’s meal prep day I boil some broccoli, zucchini, spinach (add last) and mash it, blend it and throw it into freezer cubes. yum!
