How to Make a Fairy Swing with Your Toddler

There’s something magical about crafting with little ones. Not only do they get to explore textures and materials, but together you create memories that last forever. Recently, my toddler and I spent an afternoon making a fairy swing — a whimsical little project that brought so much joy.

Here’s how you can make your own:

Materials You’ll Need:

  • A wooden slice (for the base)

  • Small sticks (for the swing frame and seat)

  • Non-toxic craft glue or hot glue gun (adults only)

  • Grass, moss, or leaves (for decoration)

  • Mini mushrooms, butterflies, or other fairy-themed decorations

  • Twine, thread, or string (for the swing ropes)

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Go outside with your child and collect a few sticks for the frame. Kids love the adventure of foraging — and it makes them feel part of the process.

Step 2: Build the Frame

Choose three sturdy sticks and glue them into a triangle shape to make the swing stand. Attach them securely to the wooden slice.

Step 3: Make the Swing Seat

Glue together two or three smaller sticks to form a tiny seat. Use string or twine to attach it to the frame so it can swing gently.

Step 4: Add the Magic

This is where the fun begins! Decorate the base with grass, moss, or leaves. Add tiny mushrooms, butterflies, or any fairy garden decorations you love. Let your toddler place and glue them where they want — the wonkier, the cuter.

Step 5: Play & Imagine

Once the glue dries, admire your creation together. Your child might want to place tiny dolls, fairy figurines, or even pebbles on the swing.

Why This Activity Is So Special

Crafting together isn’t just about the end product. It’s about slowing down, connecting, and letting your child see that creativity lives in the simple things around us. A handful of sticks and a slice of wood can become a magical fairy playground.

So next time you’re looking for an afternoon activity, head outside, gather what you find, and let the magic unfold.
