I really LOVED my pregnancy and especially the third trimester, as I was learning more and more about labour and delivery and about how to be the best version of myself as I was getting ready for that homestretch.

I’ve previously shared my third trimester supplement protocol in which I take collagen, dates, ghee and raspberry leaf tea.

To make it easier to take all my supplements in, I’ve put it together in this simple third trimester pregnancy smoothie. So in the below recipe you’ll find some ingredients that are part of my usual third trimester supplement protocol, however note that your partner/husband may also really enjoy this smoothie (yes you can have this smoothie even if you’re not pregnant).

What’s so healthy about this pregnancy smoothie:

Dates – Dates are not only healthy, but also safe to eat during pregnancy.

Banana – Banana is not only a great filler for this smoothie recipe, but has some great health benefits including good source of vitamins and minerals, especially potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C.

Collagen / Collagen Protein – Collagen is a supplement I take even when I’m not pregnant but I make sure I definitely take this during pregnancy as some sources say that a high protein diet may help with tearing as well as overall health. Off course collagen tis a fantastic source of protein, but especially bovine derived collagen is great for skin hair and nail health, and personally in my opinion I feel it will definitely help me heal post partum. So there’s no better time than NOW to start this supplement.

Ghee – In Ayurveda, Ghee is recommended during conception and pregnancy as it can help with absorption of calcium and for loosening abdominal and pelvic muscles (source).

Fibre – Constipation and haemorrhoids often occur during pregnancy and due to the extra weight you carry in your third trimester, can be more present in the final stages of pregnancy. Ensuring you get enough fibre in your diet to help with a smooth bowel movement MAY aid both constipation and haemorrhoids, so add in a scoop of fibre to your meal where you can to help the process.

  • 1 Ripe Banana

  • 4-6 pitted dates

  • 1 Scoop collagen (flavourless or vanilla)

  • 1 Teaspoon of softened ghee

  • 1 scoop of Macro Gentle Fibre (or alike)

  • 250ml Milk of Choice (or coconut water)
