How Sharing My Story Reminded Me Why We Write It Anyway
There are moments in life that feel like milestones — not because of the stage or the spotlight, but because of the energy in the room.
Last week, standing at the Sharjah International Book Fair, I felt that energy everywhere — in the smiles of readers, the hum of stories being exchanged, and the quiet magic that happens when words meet the people they were meant to reach.
When I sat down to sign the first early-release copies of Write It Anyway, I was reminded that this book isn’t just about writing — it’s about healing, courage, and connection. Every person who stopped by shared something that echoed through me: a story they hadn’t told yet, a dream they’d put on hold, or the relief of realizing that their experiences mattered too.
The fair itself was extraordinary — one of the world’s largest celebrations of books and creativity, filled with families, artists, and authors from every corner of the globe. But what moved me most wasn’t the scale — it was the intimacy. The look in someone’s eyes when they say, “Your words helped me believe I can do this too.”
That’s what Write It Anyway is all about.
It’s a love letter to the ones who’ve lived through something transformative and feel called to share it. It’s a guide for turning pain into purpose, for finding your authentic voice, and for helping others heal through your story.
As I left the fair that evening, arms full of flowers and heart full of gratitude, I thought about the power of community — of the people who make these moments possible.
To Manar Al Hamd and the team at Lightning Source and IngramSpark — thank you for creating spaces where independent authors like me can meet our readers face-to-face. Your work truly changes lives.
And to everyone who came to say hi, share a hug, or take home a signed copy — thank you for reminding me why we tell our stories at all.
Because healing doesn’t happen in silence. It happens when we give our truth a voice.
So here’s to the storytellers, the dreamers, and the ones still finding the courage to begin.
